WCAG 2.2 became a W3C Recommendation in October 2023. It adds 9 new success criteria over 2.1, withdraws Parsing (4.1.1), and is the version most procurement RFPs and regulators are now citing. Our checker tests every machine-detectable 2.2 rule and reports each failure with the WCAG success-criterion number, level, and a remediation hint.
FAQ
What is new in WCAG 2.2?+
WCAG 2.2 (October 2023) added 9 new success criteria over 2.1. Highlights: 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum) AA, 2.5.7 Dragging Movements AA, 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum) AA, 3.2.6 Consistent Help A, 3.3.7 Redundant Entry A, 3.3.8 Accessible Authentication (Minimum) AA. It also withdrew 4.1.1 Parsing.
Should I check against WCAG 2.2 or 2.1?+
Check against 2.2 — it is fully backward-compatible with 2.1 (every 2.1 criterion is still in 2.2 except the withdrawn 4.1.1). U.S. ADA settlements and EU regulations are migrating to 2.2 as the bar. Future-proof your audit by testing 2.2 today.
Do automated tools catch the new 2.2 criteria?+
Some — Target Size (2.5.8) and Focus Not Obscured (2.4.11) are partially automatable; axe-core 4.7+ flags them. Dragging Movements and Accessible Authentication require manual review. Our scanner flags everything axe-core 4.x supports plus contrast detail from Pa11y.
Is WCAG 2.2 the same as ADA compliance?+
WCAG is the technical bar. ADA is the law. U.S. courts treat WCAG 2.0/2.1/2.2 AA conformance as a sufficient defense in most Title III cases, but ADA also covers procedural obligations (accessibility statement, feedback channel, remediation timeline) that WCAG itself does not specify.
How long does a scan take?+
About 30 seconds for a typical landing page. Multi-page crawls are available on paid plans.
